DIFFUSION SEGREGATION AND STRESSES IN MATERIALS
Ouvrage 3-908450-76-4 : DIFFUSION SEGREGATION AND STRESSES IN MATERIALS
This volume contains the proceedings of the conference, "Diffusion,
Segregation and Stresses in Materials (DSS-02)", which was held at the
Moscow State Institute of Steel and Alloys, Moscow, Russia. The
participants, all experts in their field, were drawn from 15 countries
and interchanged their expertise via 90 scheduled lectures, plus poster
sessions and many informal discussions. The fruits of this interchange
have been condensed into the over 300 pages of this book. The papers
treat the many and varied ways in which diffusion and stress can
interact. In some cases, such as oxidation and phase separation,
diffusion creates stresses because of the differing volumes of the
segregating atoms. In other cases, such as laser irradiation and thermal
grooving, existing stresses can be relieved by diffusion. These, and
many other situations, are discussed in detail here. As a result, the
work constitutes an authoritative and wide-ranging survey of the subject
which should be valuable to any metallurgist, physicist or materials
scientist.
